Factors Affecting the Persian Cat Price in India
Breeder’s Reputation and Quality –Â
The most important factor is the quality and reputation of the breeder. Reputed breeders will charge more as they have a strong reputation to maintain and they invest more in the health and maintenance of their breeding cats. They also have high-quality Persian cats with a good pedigree. Persian kittens from reputed breeders are more in demand, so they can ask for a higher price.
Age and Gender –
In general, kittens below 6 months of age are more expensive than older cats. Also, females (queens) are more expensive than males (studs) because females can get pregnant and produce kittens. Kittens also require more care and nutrition, so breeders have to invest more in raising them.
Colour and Markings –
Some coat colours and patterns, like colourpoint Persians or chinchilla silver Persians, are more rare and more exotic. Breeders can demand a premium price for such uniquely coloured Persian kittens. Plain colours like blue or black are more common so tend to be cheaper.
Show Quality or Pet Quality –
Show quality or breed-grade kittens that can be used for cat shows and breeding will be priced higher than pet-quality kittens, even from the same litter. Show quality kittens have to meet high standards for their breed.
Availability –
The overall availability of high-quality Persian kittens also determines the price. When the demand is high but availability is low, the breeders can charge a higher premium. During seasonal kitten seasons, there are more options so the prices tend to be lower.
Additional Services –Â
Breeders may charge more if they provide additional services like vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, breed certification documents, feeding manuals, grooming sessions, and initial medical checkups. The costs can add up significantly to the total kitten price.
Maintenance cost of owning a Persian Cat in India(Monthly)
The majority of the expenses of owning a pet are their food. For Persian cats, if you go for standard/budget friendly cat food it can range from 500- 700 rs while the cost of premium quality cat food can range from 1000- 2,000 Rs. the average price of cat litter is 300 -500 Rs. So, overall the monthly expense will range from 2,000- 5,000 Rs. including other expenses like vaccination, deworming and some other accessories.
I also recommend getting pet insurance which will cover the expenses of any health treatment.
About Persian cats in India
History and Origin-
The first ancestors of Persian cats arrived in Europe in the 16 hundreds. They were brought to Italy from Iran and to France from the Ottoman Empire.Â
Nobody knows about their ancestors but some believe that the Turkish Angora may be the ancestor of these cats. Their unusual appearance gained them tons of popularity. As such, they quickly made their way to England and participated in the first cat show ever. Moving on to their appearance, you’ll immediately notice Persian cats look different from all other breeds.
That’s mainly due to their flat face and shortened muzzle. There are actually two types of Persian cats the traditional or dollface Persian and the peak-faced, or extreme. The extreme style calls for the forehead, nose and chin to be in vertical alignment. In the traditional style, the muzzle is visible, even if shorter than the average. The peak faced Persian cats appeared recently in the 1960s.
Appearance-
As we know there are two types Traditional/ doll face and punched/ Extreme face. The doll face Persians have muzzles which are visible while extreme Persian cats have punched or flattened faces. Whether you purchase a doll or extreme face all Persian cats have a big round face with big eyes, small straight ears that are set far apart from each other and big fluffy bodies with fluffy tails and comparatively small legs. Their eyes can be of any colour, and so can their coats.Â
Temperament-
Persian cats are pretty, warm and caring. They’re loving towards their owners and often towards guests. Persian cats enjoy being held and cuddled. Or maybe they’re just too lazy to fight it. They are very affectionate, However, these cats won’t be around following at every given minute. Persian cats are also known to sit on your lap.Â
Size and Life span-
On average, the Persian cat has a life span ranging from 12 -17 years. They can grow between 10-15 inches in height and can weigh between 3- 5.5 Kg.
Trainability-
Persian cats are trainable and can learn some simple tricks. However, they are slow learners and it requires a lot of repetition as well as patience to train them.Â
Relationship with other pets-
Persian cats do pretty well with other pets as long as their space is respected. If introduced gradually to other cats, they’ll do great. You can expect some tension, which is totally normal.
It’s best, however, to get a cat with a similar personality. If you get a very active cat, your Persian might be overwhelmed by all that energy. And the same goes for dogs. Make sure that the dog is well-behaved and respects the cat’s space.
Health Problems-
Persian cats are susceptible cats, and they’re prone to certain diseases. Lots of these problems occur due to their flat faces. The extremely flat-face Persians are more problematic. The usual health concerns for Persian cats are breathing difficulties, eye issues, and dental disease. Moreover, polycystic kidney disease (PKD), which causes kidney failure, has a very high incidence rate, 36% to 49% in the Persian brief.
This is a hereditary disease, and its symptoms appear when the cat is about seven years old. Unfortunately, a kitten can still inherit this gene, even if the parents are healthy.

Tips to take care of Persian cat
1. Vaccination and deworming-
Vaccination is extremely important as it will help to prevent your cat from getting any severe disease. So, make sure as soon as you get a Persian kitten consult your vet about vaccination and take them to get the vaccination as per the schedule given by your vet. Also, start deworming your kitten as they can easily get worms and parasites which can negatively impact your Persian cat’s health. Again, consult a vet about deworming.
2. Feeding –
As we all know, Cats are meat eaters i.e carnivorous. So make sure to feed them including meat in their diet like cooked fish, chicken or goat meat, etc. it is preferred not to feed them whole grains. You can also feed the cat food but make sure the primary ingredient of the cat should be meat and should have almost no or less grain in it. Persian cats do have sensitive stomachs so whenever you want to shift to new cat food start including it in their diet slowly.Â

3. Enrichment-
Persian are lazy and calm. However, they are not complete couch potatoes that love to rest all day. They are actually very playful. So, make sure you have many interactive toys, and scratching posts to keep them entertained and happy.
4. Accessories-
Before bringing a Persian cat it is an important accessory to take proper care of them like a hairbrush, litter boxes, cat litter, scratching post, toys, nail clippers, etc.
5. Grooming-
Grooming them is not an easy task as they do shed a lot and have long hairs that require daily brushing to keep their hair from getting tangled and to prevent the formation of knots as well. You don’t need to bathe them regularly, as cats keep themselves clean all the time. So, bathing them every 1 or 2 times a month is enough. Also thoroughly wipe their face, especially their short muzzle, and eyes every day. And make sure to check the ears every week and clean them if needed. Also, cut the nails if it is grown too big. Â
6. Vet check-ups-
Vet checkups play a very important role in caring tips to keep your cat away from various diseases.
I would recommend you take them at least 2 times per year for a complete health checkup. Their health checkup should include a complete body check as well as skin and dental health.
